Fourth Meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Issues

The Fourth meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Issues held in Baku took place on 2 December 2014 in the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan and led by Ms. Sevinj Huseynova, Vice-Chair of the Commission and member of the Azerbaijani Parliament. The main item of the meeting’s agenda was dedicated to the issue of increasing information flows among the TURKPA member countries. The parliamentarians of the member countries conducted deliberations in the light of idea on strengthening mass media in Turkic-speaking states put forward by the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev during the Fourth Summit of the Turkic Council held on 5-6 June in Bodrum.

Participants touched upon the current situation regarding information exchange among the Turkic-speaking states in various fields and pointed out basic problems emerging from the lack of information flows among the countries. The necessity to launch and develop various projects in the field of mass media was emphasized by the delegations and members of the Commission suggested to form concrete mechanisms of enhancing cooperation on information exchange within the TURKPA framework.

The Commission approved report and recommendation on the matter to be adopted at the Sixth Plenary Session in 2015.

The meeting was attended by the delegations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Representatives of the Turkic Council, TURKSOY, Turkic Academy, Union of the World Turkic Municipalities, Ahmet Yassawi Kazakh-Turkish University and Manas Kyrgyz-Turkish University also attended the meeting.
