On 20 February 2020, Secretary General Altynbek Mamaiusupov held meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCEPA). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the OSCEPA 19th Winter Meeting and was also attended by the OSCEPA Secretary General Roberto Montella, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Vienna Mr. Galib Israfilov and member of the Delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the OSCEPA Mr. Tahir Mirkishili.
The parties discussed the prospects of deepening cooperation between TURKPA and OSCEPA in the light of implementing joint initiatives and obtaining an observer status by TURKPA in the OSCEPA. President Tsereteli emphasized the importance of subregional groupings operating in the OSCE area and mentioned the necessity to develop further cooperation between the two organizations as the parliamentary dimension of the Turkic-speaking countries could potentially be a platform for confidence-building measures in Central Asia and entire Turkic world.
Mr. Mamaiusupov stressed the wider regional context of Turkic cooperation platform that implies prospective accession of Uzbekistan to TURKPA and participation of Hungary along with other stakeholders expressing interest to develop relationships with Turkic cooperation institutions. Secretary General said that involvement of TURKPA in the OSCEPA activities at the level of observer status would enable both organizations to extensively use concrete instruments and mechanisms of cooperation with the promotion of comprehensive security within the OSCE area.
Both parties also exchanged views on the prospective areas of cooperation and implementation of joint projects.
