47th Plenary Session of Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of CIS Member Nations took place
47th Plenary Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) took place on 13 April 2018 at the Tavrichesky Palace in Saint Petersburg. The main topic of the Plenary Session was "Intercultural dialogue of the Commonwealth countries: status, prospects and legal support" dedicated to the year of culture in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Parliamentary delegations of the IPA CIS member countries, as well as representatives of various international organizations took part at the Plenary Session. The agenda covered model laws prepared by IPA CIS permanent Commissions.
Following the opening speech by Ms. Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, welcome addresses were delivered by Mr. Georgiy Poltavchenko, Governor of Saint Petersburg, Ms. Gulshat Mammedova, Speaker of Mejilis of Turkmenistan, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, Speaker of Wolesi Jirga of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mr. Jorgen Pettersson, President of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference, Mr. Roberto Montella, OSCE PA Secretary General and Mr. Francesco Maria Amoruso President Emeritus of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. Participants discussed draft model documents prepared by the members of permanent commissions and experts.
TURKPA Deputy Secretary General Mr. Nauryz Aidarov also took part in the Session. On the Session's sidelines, Mr. Aidarov met with members of parliamentary delegations and other dignitaries to discuss the issues of mutual interest.
At the end of the Session, members of the IPA CIS Council held a press conference and summed up the results of the Session.
