Secretary General took part at Inter-parliamentary Conference in Baku

On 2 May 2024, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er attended the Inter-parliamentary Conference organized within the frame of the Sixth World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku.

The event took place under the theme "The Role and Best Practices of the Legislature in the Protection of Cultural Heritage". Speakers, Vice-Speakers and members of parliaments, government officials, as well as representatives of international organizations attended the Conference.

In her opening speech, Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova underlined the significance of the Conference in terms of advancing intercultural dialogue. She noted that it takes proper institutional and legislative approaches to preserve the heritage and pass on to generations.

The event continued with speeches of the heads and representatives of participating delegations. The participants shared their best practices and touched upon various aspects of protecting cultural heritage and promoting its inclusivity.

Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er also delivered a speech at the Conference. Secretary General expressed belief that discussions during the Conference would contribute to the promotion of cultural diversity, values of tolerance, mutual respect and understanding. He stressed the important and special role of parliaments in shaping the legal and political framework for the protection of cultural heritage, and passing it on to future generations. Speaking about the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting cultural heritage, strengthening cultural cooperation and intercultural dialogue, Secretary General informed on the work carried out in the field of cultural heritage through the cooperative mechanisms within the framework of TURKPA.
