Elections to the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan

TurkPA international election observation mission has been to Astana and for the first time conducted a short-term monitoring of the indirect elections to the Senate (upper chamber) of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan held on 28 June, 2017.

TurkPA observers’ mission was comprised of Mrs Sadaqat Valieva, member of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan, Mr Torobai Zulpukarov, member of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyz Republic, Mr Mustafa Isen, member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey assisted by the representatives of the TurkPA Secretariat.

During its stay TurkPA observers met with Mr Berik Imashev, Chairman, Central Election Commission, other high ranked officials of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, municipality of Astana as well as representatives of other international monitoring missions such as Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and others.

At the press conference held on the 29th June TurkPA observers group stated that the elections of the members to the Senate of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan were held in compliance with the national legislation of Kazakhstan and international election standards.
