Early Parliamentary Elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan

TURKPA International Observers Mission comprised of the parliamentarians from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, as well as diplomatic staff of the TURKPA Secretariat monitored the early parliamentary election in Azerbaijan held on 9 February 2020.

On the election day, the members of the Mission met with the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mr. Mazahir Panahov. Mr. Panahov informed the mission on the technical and logistical issues during the preparation process and answered the questions of the observers. In their turn, members of the mission wished success and expressed their conviction that the elections will be held in fair, free and transparent manner.

The mission observed the voting process in a number of polling station in Baku, as well as Shamakhi and Gobustan conducting election observation in different locations within the country. During their visit, the observers monitored vote cast, conversed with the voters and polling officials, as well as with other international observers on the ground. They also held meeting with Mr. Adil Mammadov, Head of Executive Authority of Gobustan district.

According to the preliminary information of the Central Election Commission overall voter turnout stood at 47,81%.

Within the observation programme, members of the mission gave the interview to local mass media.
