TURKPA took part at the 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress

On 25-26 May 2023, TURKPA Secretaries of Commission participated at the 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress held in Saint Petersburg. The Congress was co-organized by the Government of the Russian Federation, the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation under the theme “Ecology: a right, not a privilege”. Parliamentarians, ministers, representatives of international organizations, governmental bodies, various institutions, business and academic communities, experts attended the Congress.

The event brought together nearly 1500 participants from more than 50 countries.

The two-day event featured roundtables and a plenary session that was focused on the various issues of the global ecological agenda including development of national projects, protecting natural resources and biodiversity, climate policy, green energy, eco-awareness, and the sustainable development of waterbodies.

On 25 May, TURKPA Secretaries of Commission participated at the roundtables titled “Climate: New Challenges of the Century” and “Ecotourism: Current Situation and Prospects”.

On 26 May, they took part at the Plenary Session of the Congress. The topic of the discussion was “Man and the planet: are they compatible?”. Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko opened the Session that continued with the speeches by heads of parliament and ministers of the member countries.

The Nevsky International Ecological Congress has been regularly held since 2008. The goal of the Congress is promotion of international environmental security framework. TURKPA also took part at the 9th Nevsky International Ecological Congress in 2021.
