TURKPA participated in the First International Conference on Road Safety for Parliamentarians

On 8-9 February 2023, TURKPA Deputy Secretary General Talgat Aduov attended the First Road Safety Conference for Parliamentarians under the theme “Capacity Building for Effective Legislative Framework on Road Safety” jointly organized by the International Parliamentarians Congress (IPC) and the European Union (EU) in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The two-day conference brought together heads and representatives of parliamentary assemblies and international organizations such as the UN, EU, IPU, as well as representatives of research institutes and academic circles. The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan H.E. Arif Alvi also attended the event.

While addressing the inaugural session of the Road Safety Conference for Parliamentarians, Mr. President expressed his deepest condolences and sympathy for such a tragic loss of life and property in Turkiye and Syria due to the devastating earthquake.

Mr. Alvi also noted that the conference was convened at a very critical point in time, when the country had faced numerous consecutive road accidents in the recent days resulting in tremendous loss of life and injuries.

On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Aduov met with the IPC President and the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, the IPU President Duarte Pacheco and the IPC Secretary General Sitara Ayaz. The parties exchanged views on further development of cooperation and issues of mutual interest.

The conference featured five break-out sessions on the matter. At the end of the conference, the Islamabad Declaration on road safety was adopted.
