The third meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Environment and Natural Resources hosted by the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan took place on 22 June 2017 in Astana.

Main item of agenda the third meeting was “Development of alternative energy sources in member countries”. The meeting was dedicated to the EXPO-2017 Astana International Specialized Exhibition which was devoted to the development of renewable energy sources.

Parliamentarians from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, representatives of relevant ministries as well as representatives of Turkic cooperation institutions took part in the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Mr Ahliman Amiraslanov, Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Environment and Natural Resources and Chairman of the Health Committee of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At his opening speech Mr Amiraslanov stressed the importance of the EXPO-2017 International Specialized Exhibition. He mentioned that holding such an important event in Astana highlighted the successes of the Republic of Kazakhstan in its development. The chairman told that in general TurkPA member states were proud of holding such an event in Kazakhstan.

Mr FeyzullahKıyıklık, Deputy Chair of the TURKPA Commission on Environment and Natural Resources and member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey briefly presented the main report of the meeting. He mentioned that energy was a very important and sensitive issue for the whole world. Firstly he gave information about variety of energy resources and then talked about opportunities of Turkey in the sphere of alternative energy. For example, it was mentioned that Turkey ranked seventh in the world and first in Europe in terms of geothermal energy facilities.

Mr Serik Seydumanov, member of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan gave very detailed information about EXPO 2017 and different events held within the framework of the exhibition which has global coverage.

Parliamentarians also discussed potential and opportunities in all TURKPA member countries regarding the main item of the agenda and stressed that all this issues must be realized under control in order to avoid undesirable results.

The Commission approved report and recommendation on the matter to be submitted to the TURKPA 7th Plenary Session. The next fourth meeting of the Commission was scheduled to take place in the Kyrgyz Republic.
