Seventh Meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations

On 1 March 2019, the Seventh Meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations was held in Astana and hosted by Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The meeting brought together parliamentarians and experts from the member countries, representatives of the relevant ministries of the member countries, as well as guests from other institutions such as International Turkic Academy and Ahmet Yasavi International Kazakh-Turkic University. The main item of the meeting’s agenda was "Problems of the Equivalence Process in Higher Education in the TURKPA Member Countries".

The meeting was chaired by Mr. İsmet Uçma, Chairman of the Commission and member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Noting the importance of the development and improvement of recognition of qualified human resources and well-functioning equivalence processes in the member countries for the Turkic world, the participants exchanged views on finding common solutions for the problems in higher education and equivalence processes in general and conducted discussions on the establishment of joint mechanisms and practices in mutually beneficial manner.

The Commission approved report and recommendation on the matter to be submitted to the Ninth Plenary Session of TURKPA that will take place in 2019 in Azerbaijan.

The meeting of the Commission was preceded by the Third Workshop on Harmonization of the National Legislation of the TURKPA member countries. The opening of the Workshop was addressed by Mr. İsmet Uçma, Chairman of the Commission. Then the workshop continued with presentation of Model Laws on Tourism and on Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Turkic World by the representatives of the Azerbaijani and Turkish parliaments respectively, and speeches by the members of the Commission, other experts and guests.

A photo exhibition dedicated to the 10th anniversary of TURKPA was also organized in the framework of the Commission meeting.
