Fifth Meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Environment and Natural Resources

The Fifth Meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Environment and Natural Resources was hosted by Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic on 30 May 2019 in Bishkek. The main item of the meeting’s agenda was "Environmentally Consistent Utilization of Natural Resources: Legal Support”.

The meeting that was chaired by Mr. Ahliman Amiraslanov, Chairman of the Commission and member of Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, brought together parliamentarians and experts from the member countries, as well as other guests.

Stressing the impact of unsustainable consumption of natural resources on people’s health and life, the participants noted the role that the member parliaments could play in ensuring natural resources to be managed in a sustainable way. Members of the Commission conducted discussions on rational use of natural resources and increasing public awareness for the preservation of the natural resource potential and emphasized the need for cooperation and joint action among the member countries in this direction. The participants also exchanged views on the possibilities of approximation of national legislation of the member countries in the relevant sphere.

The Commission approved Report and Recommendation on the subject, as well as Concluding Report of the Workshop on “Protection of Natural Wealth of Forests and Environmental Use of Natural Resources - Legislation and Practices” held in Ankara in January 2019, to be submitted to the Ninth Plenary Session of TURKPA that will take place in the second half of 2019 in Azerbaijan.

On the same day, members of the Commission were received by Mr. Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, Chairman of Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan. The meeting’s programme also featured participants’ attendance at the plenary meeting of the Kyrgyz Parliament.

A photo exhibition dedicated to the 10th anniversary of TURKPA was also organized in the framework of the Commission meeting.
