Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in the Republic of Turkey

TURKPA international observers` mission comprised of the members of the parliaments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic led by Mr. Ahliman Amiraslanov, member of Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan and Chairman of TURKPA Commission on Environment and Natural Resources conducted a short-term monitoring of the presidential and parliamentary elections in Ankara.

On 24 June, members of the mission observed the voting process in a number of districts of the capital Ankara and were also present at the counting of votes at one of the polling stations in Ankara.

Within the framework of the observation program, TURKPA mission had meetings with the the Chairman of the Supreme Election Council Sadi Güven, Vice Chairperson of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Tekin Bingöl, Vice Chairperson of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Mevlüt Karakaya, Deputy Chair of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Naci Bostancı.

During the meetings, Mission’s interlocutors emphasized the importance of the observation of elections by TURKPA in terms of providing transparent and democratic voting.

The Chairman of the Supreme Election Council Mr. Sadi Güven has informed the members of the mission on the technical and logistical issues during the preparation process and answered the questions of the observers, as well as having exchanged views on the election process.

Head of the mission Mr. Ahliman Amiraslanov wished success and expressed his confidence that the elections will be held in fair, free and transparent manner.

On 25 June, the mission will give the press conference and present conclusions on its election observation.
