TURKPA delegation attended TURKSOY event in Bursa

On 5 November 2022, TURKPA delegation led by Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er took part at the 39th Meeting of the TURKSOY Permanent Council held within the framework of “Korkut Ata” Turkic World Film Festival in Bursa “Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2022”.

The event hosted by Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye Mr. Mehmet Nuri Ersoy was attended by ministers of culture and representatives of ministries of Turkic States, heads and representatives of Turkic cooperation organizations and other dignitaries. Ministers of culture discussed the issues related to the future activities of the Organization and cultural cooperation in the Turkic World.

Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er also delivered a speech during the opening ceremony of the event. He stressed the significance and valuable contribution of TURKSOY to the Turkic cooperation against the backdrop of increasing role of cultural diplomacy in the world. Reaffirming the commitment of TURKPA to the collaboration with brotherly organizations, Secretary General noted that interaction between the parliamentary and cultural dimensions of Turkic cooperation could bring positive results and experience.

The participants were informed on the successful events held in Bursa throughout 2022 with support of Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye Mr. Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Governor of Bursa Mr. Yakup Canbolat, Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mr. Alinur Aktaş, within the cultural capital project and on the events planned to be held in Shusha "Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2023".

The Permanent Council took a number of important decisions, including the proclamation of 2023 as the Year of composer Temirbek Zhurgenov in honour of 125th anniversary, of actress Baken Kydykeyeva in honour of 100th anniversary, of national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy in honour of 150th anniversary, of eminent scientist and thinker Abu Rayhan al-Biruni in honour of 1050th anniversary and of artist İsmet Vehit Güney in honour of 100th anniversary, as well as 2024 as the Year of poet and thinker Makhtumguly Pyragy in honour of 300th anniversary. The city of Anew (Turkmenistan) was named as “Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2024”. It was decided to hold the “Korkut Ata” Turkic World Film Festival in the cities to be declared the cultural capitals of the Turkic World.

Secretary General met with heads of national delegations on the sidelines of the event.

On 4 November, the participants attended the “Day of Uzbek Cinema” event, where national music and dances were performed by well-known Uzbek performers.

On 6 November, the delegations took part at the award ceremony of the “Korkut Ata” Turkic World Film Festival. The winners of the festival in various categories were announced and presented their awards. The ceremony took place with participation of famous figures of Turkic World cinema. “Korkut Ata” Turkic World Film Festival was successfully organized in 2021 and 2022 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, bringing together the representatives of Turkic film industry. The Third “Korkut Ata” Turkic World Film Festival will be held in Shusha in 2023.
