Secretary General attended opening ceremony of “Cultural Heritage of the 19th-century Turkic World through Yıldız Palace Photography Collection” Exhibition

On 19 January 2023, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er took part at the opening ceremony of the “Cultural Heritage of the 19th-century Turkic World through Yıldız Palace Photography Collection” Exhibition organized by the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation in Istanbul.

The program of the exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye began with reading of the message from the President of the Republic of Türkiye H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the opening ceremony.

The event was attended by state officials, representatives of Turkic cooperation organizations and cultural figures.

The exhibition featured 75 photographs from the “Yıldız Palace Photography Collection”, taken in the vast geography from Samarkand to Edirne in 19th century mirroring the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

“Yıldız Palace Photography Collection” of Sultan Abdülhamid II, as one of the world’s unique visual archives comprises 918 albums containing 36,585 photographs. As a significant part of Turkic cultural heritage, “Yıldız Palace Photography Collection” has an exceptional value in terms of documentation of this heritage and offers an opportunity to glance at social, cultural, economic and political history of its period.
