Fourth Meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Economic Cooperation

The Fourth meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Economic Cooperation took place on 10 November 2014 in Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main item of the meeting’s agenda was the cooperation in developing energy sector among Turkic-speaking countries. The meeting was headed by Mr. Serikjan Kanaev, Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Economic Cooperation and member of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.

Parliamentarians of the TURKPA member countries conducted deliberations on the issue of enhancing cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries in the field of energy. Representative of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States also took part in the meeting and informed participants on the cooperation among Turkic-speaking states in the field of energy within the Council’s framework.

At the meeting, a report titled “Cooperation in developing the energy sector” was discussed and the recommendation addressing parliaments and governments of the four countries was approved.

The Commission made emphasis on the need to develop alternative and renewable sources of energy. In this regard, Chairman of the Commission Mr. Serikjan Kanaev said that President of Kazakhstan H.E. Nursultan Nazarbaev, foreseeing trends in the energy field, put forward the initiative of holding EXPO-2017 in Astana under the main theme “Energy Sources of the Future”.

It has been decided that the next 5th meeting of the Commission will be held in the Kyrgyz Republic in the second half of 2015.

In the meeting’s framework, members of the commission met with the Management Board of JSC “Astana EXPO-2017” and top management of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
