On 30 March 2021, TURKPA and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean co-organized Virtual Parliamentary Meeting on “Cross-regional cooperation in shaping a resilient economic recovery”.
As the first joint initiative of the two Assemblies, the meeting aimed at the exchanging policies and legislative strategies in order to accelerate economic recovery in the regions that have negatively affected by COVID-19 pandemic and restrictive measures imposed in this context.
More than 80 participants including parliamentarians from TURKPA and PAM member countries, representatives of inter-parliamentary organizations attended the meeting. Furthermore, representatives and high level experts from regional and international organizations such as European Investment Bank (EIB), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), as well as private sector also took part in the event.
Participants made speeches and presentations, having exchanged views on fiscal and monetary policies, green recovery and sustainable development, digitalization and vaccine cooperation.
As a follow-up to the virtual meeting, a conference on economic recovery is planned to be held in October 2021.
