Symposium “Past, Present and Future of the Turkic World” took place

On 16-18 March 2021, TURKPA and Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University co-organized Symposium titled “Past, Present and Future of the Turkic World” in Bishkek. The event hosted by the Manas University was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of independence of Turkic-speaking countries, 100th anniversary of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) and 100th anniversary of the Independence March (Turkish National Anthem). Parliamentarians from the member countries, representatives of Turkic cooperation organisations and academic circles attended the event.

Mr. Alpaslan Ceylan and Mr. Asylbek Kulmyrzayev, Rector and Vice-Rector of the Manas University, TURKPA Secretary General Mr. Altynbek Mamaiusupov, Mr. İsmet Uçma, member of the GNAT and Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. President of the International Turkic Academy Mr. Darkhan Kydyrali, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Mrs. Gunai Afandiyeva took part at the session in an online format. A video message from the Director of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Fahrettin Altun was also demonstrated at the opening session.

Deputy Chairperson of Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Mrs. Aida Kasymaliyeva delivered a speech, while Speaker of the GNAT Mr. Mustafa Şentop addressed the symposium through a video message, in the capacity of guests of honour.

On 17-18 March, the symposium continued its work with four panel sessions titled “Grand National Assembly of Turkey and adoption of Independence March as Manifestation of National Sovereignty”, “Turkic-speaking States in the 30th Anniversary of Independence and the Role of Parliaments”, “Common Values and Cultural Heritage of the Turkic World” and “Future Prospects of the Turkic World: Expectations and Opportunities”.

The participants exchanged views on the achievements of Turkic-speaking countries over the past 30 years, the role of Turkic institutional cooperation in the strengthening of relations, as well as the prospects of future cooperation among the countries.

The event was concluded by assessment session and awarding ceremony.
