The 138th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related meetings took place in Geneva, Switzerland on 24-28 March 2018.
The agenda of the Assembly covered such key issues as strengthening the parliamentary contribution to the global compact for migration, sustaining peace as a vehicle for achieving sustainable development, tackling women’s underrepresentation in politics, engaging the private sector in the development of renewable energy, and building sustainable and resilient societies. The meetings were attended by parliamentarians from more than 100 countries and representatives of international organisations.
Meetings organized by IPU statutory bodies, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and on Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young Parliamentarians were concluded with adoption of reports and declarations on the discussed issues.
TURKPA Deputy Secretary General Mr. Ali Yıldız represented TURKPA at the IPU 138th Assembly and attended the meetings of the Association of Secretary Generals of Parliaments (ASGP). In his presentation Mr. Yıldız briefed on establishment, structure and activities of TURKPA and gave information about the experience of the TURKPA member parliaments in innovative activities and involvement of the sociecty in this process.
