Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States

Speech of Mr. Ramil Hasanov, secretary general of the parliamentary assembly of turkic-speaking countries at the 7th session of the parliamentary union of the oic member states (Palembang, 24-31 january 2012)

Mr. Chairman

Dear participants

Ladies and gentlemen,

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for invitation to attend the 7th session of the PUIC session, being an opportunity for me to address such an honourable audience.

The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (TURKPA) was established on 21 November 2008 upon the Istanbul Agreement signed by the chairmen of parliaments of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.

One of the main tasks of TURKPA is establishment of new relations and development of existing ones with parliaments and other international organizations of the countries in the region and all over the world. Our goals include promoting of political dialogue between its member countries, as well as creating favourable political climate for elaboration and implementation of various initiatives aimed at strengthening regional and global security.

Parliamentary dimensions of OIC and Turkic-speaking states represent an additional platform in international cooperation, as a crucial aspect in strengthening peace, democracy and economic development and other topical issues worldwide. In this regard, TURKPA pays special attention to cooperation with PUIC with its great experience and a high-level platform for discussion of regional and global concerns by parliamentarians from countries with Muslim population. Taking into consideration that Turkic-speaking countries population is dominantly Muslims, cooperation with PUIC is inevitable and extremely important. It is my great privilege to emphasize that here TURKPA, at the 7th session of PUIC, is already participating in capacity of observer. The logical result of these close relations was granting PUIC an observer status in TURKPA last year. I should underline the fact that all TURKPA member states are also members of PUIC. In this regard, mutual observer status is a significant basis for us in promoting dialogue among parliamentarians of Islamic world, exchanging parliamentary experience, discussing economic, cultural, social and political issues of interest to the Islamic community.

I would like to particularly emphasize that our Assembly strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestation. Terrorism does not have any religion and it is unacceptable to relate acts of terrorism to Muslim religion, as Islam is a religion of peace, mutual respect and humanity. TURKPA from the very moment of its establishment advocates for tolerant co-existence of different nations and religions and all our member-countries are examples of such peaceful and friendly co-existence of people with different religious faith and national identity. In this context, our cooperation contributes to intensifying the inter-cultural and inter-faith dialogue between the civilizations that is an issue of the agenda important for ensuring peace, harmony and understanding among different cultural communities around the world.

Mr. Chairman and respectful participants,

Let me express sincere thanks on behalf of TURKPA for excellent organization of the PUIC 7th session and for having a chance to address the session. I would like to express my high appreciation to the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia for hosting this high-level event, as well as to express gratitude to the PUIC for their cooperation, and wish success to all participants.

Thank you very much for your kind attention.
