H.E. Mr. Binali Yıldırım
Binali Yıldırım was born in Refahiye, Erzincan Province, on 20 December 1955. He was educated at the Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and later received his master's degree from the same department. He served as an assistant and research officer at the Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
During 1978-1993, he served in several managerial positions in the General Directorate of the Turkish Shipping Industry and the Camialtı Shipyard.
In 1990-1991, he received specialised training on Maritime Safety and Environmental Protection from the International Maritime Organisation's World Maritime University in Sweden.
From 1994 to 2000, he served as the director general of the İstanbul Fast Ferries Company (İDO - İstanbul Deniz Otobüsleri) within Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
In 1999, he was awarded a quality award by the Skal International Group for his contributions to the maritime transportation and tourism.
Binali Yıldırım was elected as a member of parliament from Istanbul (AK Parti - Justice and Development Party) during parliamentary election on 3 Kasım 2002 and served as the Minister of Transport during 58th and 59th AK Parti governments.
He was elected as a member of parliament from Erzincan (AK Parti) during parliamentary election on 22 July 2007 and continued his office during 60th AK Parti government.
He was elected as a member of parliament from Izmir (AK Parti) during parliamentary election on 12 June 2011 and continued his office as the Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communication during 61th AK Parti government.
During the parliamentary election held on 1 November 2015, he was re-elected as a member of parliament from Izmir (AK Parti) and was appointed as the Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communication during 64th government. During the Extraordinary Congress on 22 May 2016, was elected as the Chairman of AK Parti. He was assigned by the President Mr. Tayyip Erdoğan tarafından to form the 65th government and was appointed as the Prime Minister.
He was elected as a member of parliament from Izmir (AK Parti) during parliamentary election on 24 June 2018. After the shifting to the Presidential system of Government following the elections, with the repeal of the Prime Minister post, Mr. Binali Yıldırım became the last Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.
Mr. Binali Yıldırım who was elected as the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on 12 July 2018, continues his office as the first Speaker of the Parliament after the shifting to the Presidential system of Government.
On July 13, 2018, Binali Yıldırım was awarded by the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with the State Medal of Honor for his outstanding accomplishments in the survival of the state, the indivisible integrity of the country and the nation, the peace and unity of society.
Mr. Binali Yıldırım is married with 3 children. He speaks English and French.
