Turkmenistan hosted inauguration of Cultural Capital of Turkic World 2024

On 26 March 2024, the TURKPA delegation took part at the solemn Opening Ceremony of “Anev - The Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2024” organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and TURKSOY in the city of Anev, Ahal Province of Turkmenistan. The event featured the opening of the Turkic fine arts’ and handcrafts’ exhibition, and demonstration of the Turkic yurts and pavilions, as well as joint concert with participation of artists from the Turkic World.

The official part of the concert was opened by the Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mährijemal Mämmedowa. She read out the address of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the participants.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan Atageldi Shamuradov, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliyev, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Aktoty Raimkulova, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerbol Alikulov, Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic Marat Tagayev, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye Serdar Çam, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Murodjon Majidov, President of TİKA Serkan Kayalar, Member of the Hungarian National Assembly Péter Hoppál, ambassadors and other dignitaries attended the event.

Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev and Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliyev delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. An important role of the city of Anev as the sacred homeland of the Turkmen people and center of the great Turkmen history and unique cultural heritage was underlined during the speeches. On 27 March 2024, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er participated at the International Academic Conference entitled "The Ancient Culture of Anev".

Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nurmukhammet Amannepesov, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, Secretary General of TURKPA Mehmet Süreyya Er, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Aktoty Raimkulova, great-granddaughter of the legendary American explorer Raphael Pumpelli addressed the event.

Delivering a speech at the conference, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er emphasized the importance of activities and projects carried out by TURKSOY as the flagship organization in promotion of the common Turkic culture. Secretary General touched on the significant role of factor of culture in the work of Turkic Cooperation Organizations. Noting the development of cooperation with Turkmenistan as one of the priorities of the Assembly and in this context, the participation of the Parliament of Turkmenistan in the activities of TURKPA in the recent years, he expressed belief for full-fledged membership of the Parliament of Turkmenistan in the Assembly in the near future.

Following the conference, the participants attended the Third Meeting of State Museum Directors of TURKSOY member states held in the “Ak Buğday” National Museum named after the Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashy.

The event concluded with the opening ceremony of the new mosque named after the theologian Seyit Dzhemaletdin and inaugurated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the People's Council (Halk Maslahaty) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Anev and the iftar dinner in honor of guests.
