The 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue titled "Advancing Intercultural Dialogue: New Avenues for Human Security, Peace and Sustainable Development" held on 5-6 May, 2017 at the Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku devoted one of its sessions to Turkic cooperation. A round table on the theme “Turkic Heritage at the Crossroads of Cultures and Civilizations” was organized by the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and chaired by the Foundation’s Chairperson Ms Gunay Afandiyeva.
TurkPA Secretary General Jandos Asanov in his speech at the session highlighted the efforts of the TurkPA member-countries at deepening the inter-civilizational dialogue. For example, Azerbaijan held the First European Games as well as 7th Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations; Kazakhstan since 2003 has held the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions and this year it is holding EXPO-2017 dedicated to the alternative and renewable energy sources that are one of the factors of sustainable development and prosperity in the world; Kyrgyzstan twice held World Nomadic Games with the aim of restoring the heritage of Turkic and nomadic cultures; Turkey plays the role of a bridge between the continents and civilizations and is currently struggling to accommodate enormous amount of refugees.
Mr Asanov also drew attention to the areas where Turkic-speaking countries may deepen cooperation among themselves. For example, said the speaker, that there is an observable lack of information exchange among the Turkic-speaking countries. To tackle this issue, as viewed by Mr Asanov, the parties need to make a scientific approach to the issues of translation from one Turkic language into another.
Secretary General of the Turkic Council Ramil Hasanov, Secretary General of TURKSOY Prof. Duisen Qaseinov, Director General of IRCICA (OIC Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture) Prof. Halit Eren, Deputy Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies Prof. Shahin Mustafayev and professor of the Baku State University Kamila Aliyeva and academician from Russia Nizami Mammadov also addressed the audience during the round table.
Heads of Turkic cooperation institutions also held a brief consultations, during which the proposal of J.Asanov to hold the next consultative meeting of Turkic cooperation institutions in June in Baku at the new administrative building of TurkPA found unanimous support.
After the round table, Secretary General participated at the closing ceremony of the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
