Mr. Jandos Asanov was elected as the Secretary General of TurkPA at the Fourth Meeting of Plenary Session of the Assembly held on 11 June 2013 in Ankara for a four year term.

Mr. Asanov was born in 1969.

After graduating from the Almaty Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (currently Ablai Khan State University of Foreign Relations and Foreign Languages) in 1993 joined Kazakhstan’s foreign service and served, apart from the spells in the central apparatus of the Foreign Ministry, in the diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan in Islamabad, London, Vienna and Brussels.

In 1999 he worked in the Administration of the President, in 2000-2001 in the Chancery of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan in the protocol departments. Before taking over the current position he served as the Deputy Head of Administration (02.2012 – 09.2013), Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan and was in charge of international relations and press service.

J.Asanov in 2006-2008 served as the first Executive Director of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and in 2009-2011 was the Deputy Head of the former OSCE Office in Minsk.

In 1987-89 J.Asanov served in the Soviet Army. In 1992 he spent one semester at the University of Arizona, Tucson, USA on a students’ exchange programme; while serving at the Kazakh Embassy in Islamabad (1994-1998) studied Urdu at the National Institute of Modern Languages (NIML).

He published several articles regarding the language situation in Kazakhstan. In 1997 he became a co-author of the dictionary of common words of the national languages of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which was published by the National Language Authority (Muqtadarah Qawmi Zaban) of Pakistan. In October 2013 Mr. Asanov and his spouse Guljan, with the approval and sponsorship of the Language Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, published the first volume of comprehensive English-Kazakh Dictionary.

He was awarded with four medals of his country as well as received a letter of thanks from the President of Kazakhstan for his contribution to the Chairmanship of Kazakhstan in OSCE in 2010.

Mr. Asanov speaks Kazakh, Russian and English, familiar with Urdu. He is married with four children.
